Foo Fighters, Cure, Stone Age Queens

The highlights of Riot Fest 2023 will be Foo Fighters and Turnstile Friday. Postal Service, Death Cab for Stone Age Cuties and Queens Saturday; and The Cure and Mars Volta Sunday.

The three-day Riot Fest will take place Sept. 15-17 in Douglas Park, according to an announcement made Tuesday. Tickets on sale 10am May 16th at riotfest.org. Pre-sale limited tickets went on sale Monday.

Additional musical acts include Kim Gordon, Mr. Bungle, Tegan, Sara, 100 Gecs, The Gaslight Anthem, Death Grips, Parliament Funkadelic with George Clinton, Ani DiFranco, and AFI.

The independently run music festival has long been at the center of controversy last year over its Douglas Park location. Some have criticized Riot Fest and some other large music events for taking over parts of a West Side City park and making them inaccessible to the surrounding community for periods of time during the summer. Summer Smash, the three-day hip-hop festival put on by SPKRBX and Lyrical Lemonade, has announced that it will move from Douglass Park to SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview June 23-25. Heatwave is moving to the North Island from June 10-11.

According to the announcement, Riot Fest will also include its usual array of food, drink and merchandise vendors, as well as carnival rides, the return of last year’s chapel wedding and Logan Arcade with its retro arcade games.

The main star, The Cure, is also scheduled to perform at the United Center in Chicago on June 10.
