Great Britain, South Korea and China took home a number of medals during Monday morning’s events at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
Great Britain made the biggest gains in the overall medal table, winning four medals in multiple sports.
Tom Pidcock secured a dramatic win for Team GB and all medals on Monday with a come-from-behind victory in the men’s mountain bike race.
South Korea and China were slightly ahead of the rest of the pack in the race for the most gold medals. The two Asian nations had each won five golds as of Monday morning.
The United States still leads the overall medal table, but is just one medal ahead of host nation France after the latter claimed two silver medals Monday morning.

Britain’s Tom Pidcock broke the hearts of French fans at the mountain bike race venue.
The 2020 Summer Olympics gold medalist recovered from a flat tire midway through the men’s mountain bike race to beat France’s Victor Koretzky in the eight-lap race.
Pidcock suffered a puncture at the end of lap three. He was 40 seconds behind Kuretski at one stage of lap five.
Pidcock methodically worked his way through the field and joined his French rival on lap seven.
The 24-year-old then overtook Korteski on the final lap to claim his second ever gold medal.
Koretzky, who had been in the lead group for most of the race, finished nine hundredths of a second behind Pidcock to take the silver medal.
Pidcock’s win was part of a strong medal haul for Great Britain on Monday morning. Team GB also won gold in the team jumping event and took silvers in diving and equestrian to double their total in Paris in just a few hours.
South Korea and China were tied at the top of the gold medal table as of Monday morning.
South Korea equaled the gold medal race by winning its second team shooting gold in two days. The South Korean men beat France in the men’s final on Monday.
South Korea won five gold medals out of a total of eight, with two gold medals in shooting and archery and another gold medal in fencing.
China won two more gold medals on Monday in diving and shooting.
As with South Korea, China has taken the majority of the top spots in overall medals so far, with three golds in shooting and two in diving.
Australia and Japan are second in the gold medal race with four medals each. The United States has three gold medals so far. Australia and the U.S. are expected to pick up more medals in the finals swimming session on Monday afternoon.
