Drama in France: One dead and one injured after rapper SCH’s concert

One person was killed and another seriously injured during a shooting near the La Dune Club nightclub in La Grande-Motte after rapper SCH’s showcase.

One person was killed and another seriously injured during a shooting that took place at dawn this Monday, a kilometer away from La Dune Club, a famous nightclub in La Grande-Motte (Hérault), where Marseille rapper SCH was to perform.

According to preliminary information gathered from the gendarmerie, no direct link between the shooting and the concert has been established yet. However, a source close to the matter raised the hypothesis that SCH may have been the target of the attack even though he had already returned to his hotel at the time of the incident.

At around 6.00 am, the attack was carried out targeting the car in which two people were killed. Among them, a passenger was shot twice in the chest, while the driver was seriously injured and is in a critical condition. Another car was attacked with an automatic weapon and fled.

The shooting recalls the “settlement of scores” between drug traffickers, similar to the one in Marseille in 2023 that left 49 people dead. The scene of the incident, the coastal road between La Grande-Motte and Carnon, is a busy area during the day but deserted at night. As of midnight on Monday, the road was still closed and four heavily armed gendarmes were stationed at the roundabout near the nightclub.

The Marseille rapper, who has made a place for himself in the French rap scene with other Marseilles like Joule or Nabs, won the prize for best concert in April for his appearance at the Velodrome in Marseille during the 2nd edition of Flames. Rap and its trends. In 2020, he participated in the hit song “Bande Organizie” as part of the collective album of Marseille artists led by Joule, the clip of which exceeded 526 million views on YouTube.

It was the second dramatic event in two days at the popular seaside resort of Grande-Motte at the end of summer. On Saturday, the city’s synagogue was attacked by a 33-year-old Algerian who tried to set the religious building on fire, causing a stir amid an outbreak of anti-Semitism in France.
