Citroën Ami driver rolls in the famous Monaco hairpin

We love the Citroën Ami here at route path, but the small EV isn’t for spirited driving. The small car’s odd proportions make it unsuitable for hairpin cornering, and going too fast through a hairpin turn can be disastrous. One driver discovered it the hard way at the most iconic hairpin on any public road in the world, the iconic corner of the Monaco Grand Prix circuit.

In a video shared by a YouTube user benlux supercars, The Citroën can be seen flying through the corner with a large one-way body roll. On the way up, the car remains planted. However, when it comes to the other way around, body roll quickly becomes a serious problem. The car started to roll early in the corner, and at the apex rolled onto the passenger side. Roof hits a barrier, and bounces back into the corridor on its side.

Footage from outside the corner shows more tracks of Ami making the corner at full speed before making the pass. When it finally rolls over, it slides on its side for a few feet before hitting the pedestrian guardrail at the rear of the car’s roof.

At one point, the Citroën Amis was going to be available in both Portland and Washington, D.C. as part of a third-party ride-sharing program. Free2Move doesn’t list the Amis as being available for rent in any of the markets on their site today, but if you can find one in America, please don’t try to find the turning speeds where you’ll be rolling.
