Saturday’s main event at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas featured a title fight that was never meant to happen.
In mid-November, the Light Heavyweight Champion Jerry Prochazka suffered a major shoulder injury and had to pull out of his UFC 282 headliner vs. Glover Teixeira. Then, facing a long rebound, Prochazka vacated his belt in order not to disrupt the split. Teixeira turned down the opportunity to fight someone else for the title, so the UFC moved up the fight between the former champion Jan Blachowicz and Magomed Ankalaev in the main event And put the vacated belt on the line.
And after Saturday’s main event, the fight might not have happened either. The belt remained vacant thereafter Ankalev and Blachowicz fought to a controversial draw. The judges scored it 48-47, 46-48, and 47-47.
At the co-chair, the judges also made a controversial decision and awarded Buddy Pemblett a unanimous decision win over Jared Gordon despite the unbalanced stats in Gordon’s favor.
