Belgian tourist dies after drowning in Albania

UA 25-year-old Belgian tourist and a French tourist drowned in Albania. It was revealed Het Newsblatt.

Police in the Kukës region said on Tuesday evening that two foreign tourists were exploring the Valbonës nature reserve near Tropojë when they fell into a sinkhole in a steep terrain.

After raising the alarm, emergency services and officers from several police forces rushed to the spot. However, due to “extremely difficult terrain and inclement weather with fog and snow,” the helicopter was unable to land and officials were unable to reach the victims. The police needed the help of a group of trekkers who, after several searches, finally found the bodies of the two tourists.

An investigation into the circumstances of the death has been opened. According to Albanian news site Vox, the young women were hiking without a guide on a trail between the tourist village of Date and the Valbonese Valley. They were crossing hilly terrain where there was snow when they slipped and fell into a ravine at the “Valbones Pass”. After that there would have been an avalanche.
