Alleged Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 XL renders show redesigned camera bar

We’re less than a month away from Google’s next event, and we probably already know what one of the major announcements will look like. TikTok user pixo_unpacking (via Way Tech B) posted videos over the weekend of clear pre-production samples of the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 XL.

The phones in the video have different backs: a glossy finish on the back of the standard Pixel 9 and a matte one on the back of the larger Pixel XL. 9 to 5 google Notes It appears to include the patterning on the back panel that Google uses on prototypes, though it’s mostly covered with stickers.

Based on the video, the Pixel 9 appears to have two cameras, while the Pixel 9 XL has three. Additionally, Google appears to have changed the camera bump to an elongated oval shape. It looks like it’s a large bump, as evidenced by the videos showing the two phones together.

Google sent out invitations last month for an event on August 13. While details were (unsurprisingly) sparse, the company promised to “showcase the best of Google’s AI, Android software, and Pixel lineup.” The event will be held at Google’s Mountain View headquarters instead of the company’s usual Pixel launch location in New York City.

In addition to the Pixel 9 series, we’re expecting the next-gen Pixel Fold, a new Tensor chip, and a third-gen Pixel Watch. (And a possible Pixel Buds.) Of course, since it’s 2024 and no company can hold an event without an almost comical AI obsession, we’re almost certain to hear more about new Google AI features — like the alleged Pixie AI assistant. Plus, the phones could include iPhone-like emergency satellite messaging.
