Game of Thrones star Kit Harington says mistakes were made in the controversial finale of the series, but he’s “not sure there’s any alternative”.
Talk to GQFinally, actor Jon Snow commented on the Game of Thrones finale, which was criticized by fans for its unusual character decisions and rushed storylines. Harington suggested that while the ending wasn’t perfect, the team didn’t have the energy to make it better.
“I think if there was any fault with the end of Thrones, it was that we were all so tired, we couldn’t have continued any longer,” said Harington, who, along with his costars Emilia Clarke, Maisie Williams, and others, spent the better part of a decade in their roles, from 2011 to 2019.
“I understand some people think it was rushed and I might agree with them, but I’m not sure there was any alternative,” Harrington continued. “I look at pictures of myself from that last season and I look exhausted. I look worn out. I didn’t have another season.
“Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I think there were mistakes made in terms of the story, maybe at the end. I think there were some interesting choices that didn’t quite work.”
However, Harington was still willing to don his black fur for at least another season, having signed on to work on a Game of Thrones spinoff series centered on his character. But that project was ultimately canceled, as Harington and his team couldn’t find a story “worth working on.”
